LAWFUL HOME IMPROVEMENT

LAWFUL HOME IMPROVEMENT

Whenever we take up any task or hand over any task to somebody, we must make sure that what we are doing is purely legal and has government approval, especially if it happens to fall under the purview of state law. Any transgression in this aspect could cause avoidable embarrassment to us as well as waste the time of law makers.

The county Legislator Ed Day of Rockland New City has suggested a new law which would be put up for review when the Legislature assembles shortly in New City. The law is being given final touches and there will also be a public opinion gathered prior to voting session. The law, if approved and brought into force, would empower the county Office of Consumer Protection as also local police seize the implements and vehicles of such operators who are unlicensed and yet carry on the works of home improvement. Ed day has asserted the law would be used against all offenders scrupulously, especially those who perpetrate such acts in spite of repeated warnings. Country Consumer Protection director Terry Grosselfinger has also asserted that the law would be applied uniformly to all offenders who would brazenly commit the blunder ignoring the law. This law would also empower the authorities to impound the trucks used in home improvement tasks, even if they did not belong to the offenders and would remain so until the damages were paid by the real owners and a signed assurance obtained from them stating that they would not be a party to such offence, by lending their trucks to unlicensed contractors.

Such licenses would help to regularize the works of contractors comprising carpenters, painters, roofers, swimming pool installers, etc. By paying a nominal license fee of $650, they can escape paying high damages when caught doing illegally. Other than ensuring that these contractors obtain an authorized license, the law would also be in a position to look into complaints against roving and unauthorized workers.
